Clearly, the idea of online work and education is winning nowadays. It’s at least catching up to the alternative of going onsite.

And there are some obvious benefits to online degrees.

You don’t have to leave your home. Your school choices are not restricted by location. It’s usually more affordable because there’s less overhead for the university. You can more easily take online courses while continuing your profession.

Yeah, you won’t be able to interact with people in-person. But you still can network with people from anywhere in the world.

So if you’re not able to relocate, you don’t have much extra time, and you want to save money on getting a music production degree, taking online courses is totally worth checking out.

Let’s say you want to take music production classes online. Where do you go?

Well, I put together a list of schools, degrees, and smaller courses you can start with. These are all solid options.

Full Sail is one of the most respected music schools in the United States. And their music production program (B.S.) seems like it lives up to their reputation.

In this course, they teach you how to create music and then record and produce it. You’ll learn about things like music theory, writing music, and music production technology.

The basic overview looks like this:

• Recording principles: music theory and how to use recording software and equipment
• Digital Audio Workstations: what they are, how to use them, DAW concepts and best practices
• Audio Engineering: techniques, workflows, and strategies for producing music

Berklee College Of Music is another university that has earned its place as one of the best music schools around. Berklee Online is where you can take your career to the next level.

Their music production program has courses for both graduates and undergrads, including topics like Music Production 101, Recording And Producing In The Home Studio, and even Introduction To Game Audio. Anything you want to learn about music production, Berklee probably has it.

All of the undergraduate courses require no application, so you can just sign up and start learning.

IUPUI has a few music-related programs available online, like Analog Audio Electronics (graduate/undergraduate), Music Technology (master’s degree), and Music Therapy (master’s degree).

According to the university, the bachelor’s degree in Analog Audio Electronics will prepare you for a slew of music production careers. They include:

• Audio Engineer
• Sound Engineer Technician
• Corporate Sound Specialist
• Sound Designer
• Production Assistant

So if you’re looking to learn the ins and outs of audio engineering, which is closely related to producing music, IUPUI has got you covered.

At Indiana University in Bloomington, you can get a comprehensive education on the basics of music. You’ll learn how it works and how to use it in music production.

The Music Fundamentals Online degree covers pitch, scales, intervals, rhythm, key signatures, and chords. They even teach you ear training and a bit of scoring.

It pretty much gives you the building blocks for making music.

At the Los Angeles Film School, you can earn an Associate of Science in Music Production degree online.

The LA Film School program starts you out with an intro to the music industry as a whole, even covering copyrights and the business side of music. Then they take you through the current music production technology followed by music listening, music theory, and music composition.

You’ll also learn mixing basics and techniques. After all, that is a huge part of producing music.

If you already have a music degree or “a related degree with significant demonstrated experience in music and music technology,” you can further your music production knowledge with the University of Valley Forge’s Master of Music in Music Technology degree.

In this music degree program, you’ll learn about both the musical and technical skills for succeeding as a Music Producer. And who doesn’t want that?

Even though you can attend Point Blank Music School in several locations, like London, Los Angeles, China, Ibiza, and Mumbai, you can get a great education online.
